hey all got a 92 mu 2.8td manual got 165000kms daily driver was standard with snorkel when I got it so far ive put extended shackles wound up the front and put a set of 15x10 steel wheels with 33x12.5x15 maxxis 764 muds on it. about a week ago started puffing abit of white to blue smoke and using oil not using any coolant and has always been pretty gutless since I got it. turbo is full of oil so been looking at a 3.1 turbo and intercooler for it and remove egr then up the boost and up the fuel.
no idea how to put pics up on here see if these work

yeh oil in the pipe to air cleaner but more oil in the pipe from turbo to intake. will do the catch can but engine has plenty of lag and pretty gutless for a 2.8 compared to other diesels Ive had my old td27t navara hauled ass up the gorge and 3.1 wizard went well but the auto had a mind of its own.

The oil in the turbo will be slowing it down. Only way I know to get it out is to remove all the inlet pipeing from the turbo and give the engine a good rev. Make sure there is nothing loose within 500mm of the turbo inlet because it will suck it in with terminal results for the turbo and whatever that item was Also a good idea to hold a big rag about 200 to 300mm in front of the turbo outlet to catch the oil.
Spraying a little carb cleaner into the turbo will loosen any deposits but some vapour for this will end up in the manifold makeing the engine rev even harder. This doesnt fix the cause of the oil just gets rid of whats there

From what you've said Im not sure why your changing the turbo. The oil has come from the engine not turbo and the oil is slowing the turbo. The chances are there is nothing wrong with the turbo already fitted

Wana bring this thread back as I'm getting oil at the turbo outlet..
Will fitting a catch can and cleaning all the pipework on intake side as well as the intercooler fix this issue?

maybe
Normal cause of oil is from the engine breather and if this is the case and its not extreme a catch can may completely solve it although its normal for a little oil there If you open the oil filler with engine running how much smoke is there?
Alternate cause is a seal in the turbo and new turbo is best fix

A recoed turbo has recently been fitted, will check smoke in rocker cover tomorrow, I found a loose clamp at the base of the outlet hose to the turbo, and the amount of oil being pushed out was enough to coat the under side of the bonnet above turbo, now this is from an engine that has had an easy life, never been driven hard or far, then I purchased it and drove it 4 hours, I'm picking the whole system needs a good clean out
