My Gen 1 SWB Bighorn

Description:
This is my new project, 1989 swb gen 1 bighorn, got it off a 86 year, old 1 nz owner in standard form 3 months ago, has done 97,000km


Modifications and Accessories:

Suspension:60mm
Body Lift:50mm
Tyres/Wheels:15x8 rims 33 tyres
Traction Aids: Auto lockers front and rear
Bullbar: Homemade
Spot lights and Lighting:
Communications/GPS: Dont need them as thats part of the fun getting lost
Dual Batteries:
Engine: 4jb1-t
Exhaust: 2 1/2
Sound system: worse than factory
External:
Internal:
Others: diff drop, ball joint flip, modified cross member, custom radiator

Rob,
How much did you drop your front diff by?

Did you have to notch your cross member to clear the front diff?

I dropped my first 1 35mm and had to make a complete new cross member had no issues dropping it that far, truck was tall though, this 1 i dropped 25mm and just notched the cross member, the photo of the cross member is above

Nice, when I did my drop I only went 20mm which only means minor mods to cross member.

Yea everyone has there own measurement of how far you can go and what works, i shouldve done this one 35mm also but its done now and works good

finally finished the bar and fitted a winch, also has tow hooks and led lights

yes i saw you up there also was boring in 2wd all day, my truck is brown now, did some river driving and other tracks, have snorkle and other bits on order also

yea the mods take awhile, but have 3 months to finish it, i got them from usa, i have a spare rear and front diffs with lockers fitted 4.3 ratio

Fitted a snorkel, removed all vaccum switches, modified the air box, and fitted a gme3500 which is amazing at the moment

Thanks, poor man thats dead now would turn in his grave 4 months from a standard truck till now, i saw your truck on trademe, couldnt believe you were selling it, good to see you are going to keep it now

Cut the rear quaters off and welded 3mm plate in, have to make my rear bar next

Isuzurob, where did you get your snorkel from? I have been trying to locate one for my 91. I like the looks of this one.

The snorkle needs a few modification to fit the truck, it is a ss300hf from memory, have to move the fuse box, and the p/steering reservoir, block the old intake in air box and weld a new one in, mine looks factry under the bonnet will try and get photos, just fixing panels and bent bullbar after 4x4 yesturday

Must of missed the original snorkel post with pics. You NZ boys love those high snorkels, rivers run deep.

nope have never done a post for snorkle, you can see the modified air box etc in 1 of the photos above, last two weekends have had water/mud over the bonnet for long periods of time, it works well
