33 Inch Tyres on 2nd Gen Bighorn - No Lift

Is this possible? Has anyone done it? Tyres are 33x10.5R16 which is not as wide as most people go (for 33" tyres) so I think it could be possible to do it with no lift using the correct offset and some guard trimming.... but I've not tried it. Who has?

Why without a lift? I want to run 31" tyres 99% of the time then swap to 33" for the odd trip. I like a low center of gravity and not really interested in lifting this truck.

32s no problem 33s should fit if the rim offset is right. Make sure they dont rub when turning. Best to check right through the turning of the steering that you always have an inch of clearance to allow for wheel travel.

Any ideas on the correct rim offset? Also rim width? 7" 8"?

Thats where it gets tricky. Letter of the law says tyre must be on a manufacturer recommended size rim. Most 33s say 8.5 inch but you cant buy a 8.5 inch only 8 or 10 inch meaning you have to have 10 and put up without popping it off the bead all the time (aparantly its safer like that) Your wof guy will probably pass the 8 inch rim but the certifier should you need certification for other reasons will look and match the numbers

Checked tyres, they say 8.5" rims ... So if I was to put 10" rims on it just for certing the 33" tyres would the fact that they're on 10" rims make them more likely to hit the body/guards/chassis ? Seems if I go 10" just for that I'll probably have a massive offset like -44.

"should you need certification for other reasons" - isn't fitting 33" tyres reason enough alone for needing cert?

technically it is a certifiable requirement It affects handling and braking. Also if the tread is outside the gaurd you need certified flares Most wof places ignore it though and if yours isnt one of those then have a spare set of road tyres. Truth is you should be more scared of your insurance company than your mechanic on this especially if you have a crash. If your mods do not contribute to a crash your insurance company cant decline your claim because of them but they can be very hard of hearing when you have to remind them of that fact

NOOB question here, What size are the standard tyres on standard rims? I have stock tryes AT - but im doing 2900 at 100kph and thats feeling a bit up there, found some 31" A/T's but what is the difference??

I think factory works out at 29 inches
