having great difficulty puttng door back on

Postby MooMooMoo » Mon May 06, 2013 12:25 pm

Wow i didnt think it would be so difficult.

I guess it is a 2 man job.. i replaced my bottom door hinge on my mu on sunday .. everything was fine untill i tried to line the door back up. . man did this prove to be difficult, I copuld line up the top hinge but not the bottom. it seemed to look way out after getting the top one done. .. so i pulled it out again and tried from the bottem first. i couldnt get it to line up... then it got dark and i had to stop.

kind hard to do it alone with the door resting on a milk create.

Anyone got any tips for me?

Ps .. the hinge i used was a brand new one off a TF Rodeo..

They arnt easy on any truck, the hindge also moves on the bolts on the a pillar aswell i normally draw around the old one with a black pen so you can fit the new one in the same pace, i normally use a trolley jask and a long piece of 4x2 along the bottom of the door then you can move door up and down and in and out, still not easy but works for me

Silly me... if i had drawn around the old one first things would have been alot easier.

i will try the trolly jack trick sounds like it would be easier than a milk create

thanks

found out that TF Rodea Hinges DO NOT fit on an isuzu MU ... they look the same but they do not line up properly. . . i spent hours trying to get the door on.. even took the front quarter panel off to make it easier.. and it didnt line up.. put the original one back in and everything lines up within 20 mins

That is very interesting. you didn't happen to take any photos of said hinges?

Did you compare the 2 to see what the difference was?

Thanks for letting us know this. It will save some other poor soul in the future!!

Side by side they look almost identicle.. once on the car its about 7mm out. Impossible to line up.

But i must mention the hinge i bought was after market.

Anyway.. i still have the same sagging door problem and i do not want to go through that processes again of taking off the door.

i wasthinking of installing a door guide.. like on the tailgate door. . . there is a little guide the lifts the door in the right place before closing.

Would anyone know where i could get one?

the one on the back door also moves :D :D :D I know I have a sagging door and it bangs and shakes and farts around when closed. thats even after adjusting the bl$*^y thing to stop it. ;) ;) ;)

As for the doors... I would say you may have to make something.

7mm is a long way to be out for a door hinge. thats interesting. I wonder if the genuine one is the same..

there are 4 different rodeo door hinges, two genuine hinges are around $60, take a photo of your hinges thats the only way to get the right ones

i cant see myself taking that damn door off again... im going to find a door guid like on the back tail gate and put that in.. that way the door will always line up when closing it

The easiest way is to make a light gantry over the open door Last time I did one I used the loader of a tractor and a ratchet tie down to hold it up while I changed the hinge

Just remembered doing this on the bighorn. I used a scissor jack to adjust the door after getting one hinge on loosely.

Geez you guys make it sound hard  take it into a panelbeater should be able to sort with in half hour or something's wrong. Or get some one to help hold the end put the weight on your knee and fit bolts, hard to explain sorry. Or take front guard off close door on catch and do up or adjust bolts.

Sorry just read first couple posts. Not going to work with wrong hinge. Can you drill out the new ones if not too far out or just get engineer to put new pin in old hinge
