After market springs tend to come in either standard hight or 50mm lift. Your current soprings will of sagged so even standard springs might give a 50mm lift from current. Unless you need more hight dont play with the shackles although new bushes are a very good idea. All the good books and salesmen say you should replace shocks at the same time. If they are working ok though this is just extra cost. After fitting the springs remove the lower mount of the shock on one side and jack up under the chassis till the wheel is off the ground. As long as the shock is longer than necessary to go back on the mount the shocks are ok.
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
