Electric winch installation tips and help

Postby LUNATIC4ISUZU » Sat Mar 30, 2013 6:04 pm

Hey guys

i want to install a hidden electric winch on my 1993 Trooper (TMax 9000 lbs).Yesterday i took off the front fender to see how the whole thing is going to go down and realized that the space i have there is a bit small. No matter what, the roller fairlead is going to be on the outside of the fender which i am happy with, but i don't know how i can keep the main winch body hidden behind the fender and definitely i don't want it on the outside of the fender as it will destroy my take-off angles.
Has anybody carried out this on a Trooper?Any mods needed to accommodate it like that? (relocation of AC condencer, fender modification, special mounting plate, something, anything).Any tips, help, pics on your rigs would be much appreciated.

Regards
Alex

how did you get on with the airbag sensors? Here in NZ an airbag equiped vehicle is almost impossible to do anything legally to. Its at the point that a front replacement bumper has to be crash tested on the model of car its intended for and just because it was tested on an isuzu bighorn does not make it legal to fit on the same model Monterea. We know they are the same car but they dont

Why don't you use a winch mounted to a cradle that can be attached and removed from your vehicle as needed?

There is one on the Warn site (http://www.warn.com/portable_winches.shtml).

You can use something like a "Class III Receiver" to attach it to vehicle.

It has a couple of advantages -
1) you don't have to lug it around all the time.
2) you can make it mount to the front and rear of your vehicle.
3) if other vehicles have the same receiver you can use it on them.

Ive seen them and they work well. Only catches are Where do you keep it when you dont need it yet ie on the way to the mud? They are always on the end you need them least, and they tend to sit further forwards so affect the angles more

I know this is an old post, I apologize...

Where did you get the cradle to mount the winch in? I would really like to do something like this to mine.

Thank you!
