My name is Philip and I've been living in Africa for 20 years and some. During hunting season (January to June in my area), I spend most of my time in the bush, and my cars rarely see any asphalt. Closest "town" is 200 km away from camp, nearest "road" 300 kms. This sorts out unsuitable vehicles pretty quick!
I recently bough a 1995 3.1 Trooper/Bighorn (I prefer the Trooper moniker) as my personal ride. As strongly built as a Toyota 80, actually more leg room in the rear, and a third of the costs. A no-brainer... The only thing is that not many people are aware of the Isuzu's sturdiness and qualities.
