Looking for a Bighorn

Postby Downhillnz » Wed Sep 09, 2015 5:55 pm

Righto guys. I have convinced the better half to get rid of her Altezza.

I am looking for a 7 seater bighorn. Preferable to be the newer 3.1TD shape. Manual is preferred but no essential. Must be tidy inside and out.

Ideally not too many issues with it.

I either have my turbo diesel corolla to swap or an altezza and cash. Or maybe just cash.

Will travel anywhere around the country side to get it!!!!!

PS. Nothing wrong with the altezza. Petrol prices make me cry.

I've found one!!! Picking it up tomoro.

The wife didn't want a two door truck. And it needed to be 7 seater and not a van. A bighorn is all my brain could think of.

The one I found runs rough (someone failed at doing a cambelt and my money is on the diesel pump being out by a few teeth) but reasonably tidy and very cheap.

hope its not something more serious but then if you buy cheap and the rest is good you can spend a few dollars fixing it

It is in dire need of a general service. And a good rugdoctor. Its filthy.

For the price I paid I could part it and not worry.

It was. Plot thickens.... Crank keyway is worn to buggery. No wonder it runs like a lemon. Time to get the mig out

keyway on crank or the spacer thing the crank goes in. Heat from the mig could lead to cracking but then the correct repair is a new crank so you are already half way into a rebuild

That had happened to my MU. Entech here machined out a wide key way slot and machined the pulley to suit. Saved the crank.

Did that involve removing the crank?

It was only the gear Geeves, not the other bit.

At this stage I have a fresh keyway and gear and I'm going to weld it into the crank. Obviously replacing the main seal before I do so!

If we still have it after that seal goes then Ill replace the crank/motor

This is what happens when backyard hillbillies do cambelts :(

can heat them i guess to get them back off, and i have a special puller to pull the gear off, the crank oil seals last for at least 200,000km

This goes from good news to good news. I had a weird exhaust noise which sounded like a leak.... Ends up its the manifold to turbo. I have seen so far one bolt is missing.
This is a weird vehicle. The egr has been removed in a professional manor, but other stuff has been bro'd up

Is it common for the manifold to turbo bolts to fall out?

Remembering this has done 350ks. Bolts do age I guess
