tps not set correctly. I would be surprised if a 96 wizard had efi????

A 96 wizard should be mechanical pump to start with unless its be changed at some stage or maybe the transmission is getting to hot towing do you have a after market trans cooler on it but like geeves said could be tps set wrong on it.
I have a after market trans cooler on my wizard and tow a 2 ton trailer and don't have any problems with it changing gears or trans lights on the dash.

do you have kick down cable connected to I injector pump from the gearbox I don't know how the efi system is set up never seen one myself everything in Australia is 90-96 mechanical injection pumps.

why did you lose the efi pump?
On the manual pump models the auto uses an ecu for speed control and not much else. gear changes are governed by tps voltage kick down cable and a speed pulse sent from the speedo. Later boxes had a full ecu doing everything but I dont know if this happened during the 4jg2 life cycle. Check the adjustment of the tps with a voltmeter check the adjustment of the kick down cable and hopefully things will be fixed

shane, the trans ecu needs a feed from the speed sensor which goes via the gauge cluster to the ecu. if the trans ecu isnt getiing a signal then it will cause your lights for the trans to flash and it wont change up past 3rd gear. what have you or gav done to it lol
