Further to the saga. I pulled the front off to check all the timings, which was per stardog's photo. I checked the dial gauge again, still reading way over. I let the belt go and moved the pump sprocket 1 tooth anti-clockwise, tensioned, centered the pump on the slots and measured with the dial gauge. 0.6mm. adjusted to 0.5mm. Now it sounds like and goes like our other one. A run up the bombays will say for sure for comparison. The other one cruises up the south side no problem at 100k's.
