Well, I think I might have. I made up an 18mm mdf spacer/drift - hole in the centre for the crank and woodruff key to go through - and sized to fit the face of the pulley rotating area in the alloy gear case cover. Pressed the seal in by tightening up the crank pulley nut on the mdf, making sure the mdf was centrally located. Later, as the seal neared fully home I used the old seal as a packer to shove the new seal below the alloy face, but found it easier to cut the mdf down into a circle of some 68mm in diameter, and still used the old seal to press the new one home with the resized mdf drift. Seems all good.
