EGT probe 4jb1 manifold

Postby gezzaroo » Sun Oct 07, 2018 4:19 pm

Hey guys, my 90 jack utilises a pre EGR manifold. I want to put it in the spot (4th cylinder) where other models use the blanking plate. My manifold has an approximately 10mm recess in the spot. Other threads say it is about 20mm thick there but that was a with a 4jg2 manifold. I want to do it without removing the manifold. What do you guys reckon.

It’s about 10mm thick, through the recessed section.

Doing it with the manifold on is not a good idea, metal swarf will be hard to remove. Could also be a risk of larger burrs of metal left on the inside which of not removed could break off and potentially damage turbo

I'm willing to give it a go with the manifold on. Vacuum and pen magnet should be adequate to remove swarf according to others.

Well its all done. Did it with the manifold on using grease and the magnet. The old Aldi tap and die kit worked a treat. No leaks.

Only problem, the sass gauge does not light up and the exhaust temp kind of rose slowly and not briskly with acceleration. So I'm hoping to get a replacement.
