Hi Guys
Only 14 months later and I've finally got onto the 4jb1 engine again..
Working less hours after lockdown so I've got a bit more free time..
The backstory is.. Missus was driving along and suddenly lost a bit of power, engine started to heat up so she stopped to let it cool down..
She then started it up and drove for 20 minutes to get to a safe place to stop so we could tow it.. it was making a ticking/tapping sound, felt under powered and getting hot..
So finally I've taken the head off.. and I cant see anything obvious in there, I gave the pistons a wriggle for play and the second one back has a bit of up and down movement.. if you cycle the engine around after the piston has reached the top and is on its way back down you can push it down about a mil.. other pistons no play..
I'm in the process of removing the sump to see what I find underneath.. I've released all the 12mm bolt I can see plus two 14mm & two 17mm from the gearbox..
the sump is still stuck there, It does have a load of red gasket sealant on it gluing it in place, I was wondering if there is anything else I need to undo first??
Also it doesn't look like its going to come out the bottom without sliding the gearbox back or removing front axle.. does anyone have any advice on which is going to be easier??
Thanks very much for your help
Damo
