4JG2 Fuel Filter change.

Postby rucarr » Tue Jan 05, 2021 2:28 pm

I have recently become carer for an 97 Isuzu MU.Having a few fuel issues.Going to start by changing fuel filter as I have no idea when it was changed last.
Did the aircleaner already and that wasn't a pretty sight!
Filter fitted has a removable water drain device on the bottom(I have a replacement in hand) and a spring loaded plunger (pump?) on the top of the housing.
What's the story re. removal, replacement, filling the filter before replacing? (or not),bleeding, etc. Is the vehicle self bleeding?
Any help much appreciated.

In theory you can just unscrew the tap on the bottom of the plastic part on the bottom of the filter to drain it then unscrew this then the filter. Ive always found it better to trac the wire in the plastic piece to a plug. Unplug it there then unscrew the filter with the plastic part in place. The plunger on top is to prim it. Unhook the line to the fuel pump and operate the priming pump till fuel apears then reattach

Where did U find the filter for yours. All the ones I find online are screw on filters and not ones that fit in the plastic housing.

Plastic housing????? Fuel filter for any diesel is the size of the oil filter and metal. The small plastic filters are for petrol only

No mine has a housing like the one in this picture. I still can't find any filters that will fit.

Looks like the plastic one's on eBay they are not a filter just a water catcher. You can use the filter primers of most JAP diesel engines as long as the inlet and out let pipe for the hose is 8mm.
I think the one i got was of Toyota or Nissan cant remember now long time ago but I've never had a problem with it .

I would agree except it has a primer pump on it. Is there currently a filter inside and if so does it have a part number?

No theres no filter any more so I don't have a part number and can't find one. It looks like this is what came stock cause my workshop Manuel shows this same set up.

Trip to a wreckers find a diesel pajero, surf or landcruiser and grab the filter assembly from that. Etch the number of the filter onto the primer housing because it will be a different part number to your book fit it and it will work
