Cam Bearing Noise with low oil pressure at idle

Postby WestOz » Thu Feb 10, 2022 8:49 pm

Hi,

I have what I suspect is a bearing noise coming from the front camshaft bearing at idle. When hot at idle I get 2 out of 8 oil pressure on the dash gauge. Full pressure seems to be about 6.5 so 2 when hot on a 300,000km engine doesn't seem too bad. Any engine revs and oil pressure goes back to 6s when hot. But I do have the bearing noise. Now I believe that the 4ZE1 2.6L engine doesn't have replicable bearing shells for the camshaft. Is that correct? In which case I assume I'm up for a new head. Is that correct? Will I also need to replace the camshaft or just have it reground?

Thanks in advance for your help and advice.

Cheers

Typically worn rod bearings, not main bearings or cam bearings, result in low oil pressure at idle. If the other bearings are worn, the pressure would be low no matter what the engine speed
