94 Isuzu mu running rough

Postby SlizardWizard » Mon Aug 12, 2024 6:35 pm

So I replaced the washers on my injectors as there was a leak and found some damage to the old washers, no problem there.

Gave them a bit of a clean up and refitted them, got them lined up with the markers on the engine. It starts but sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders. Any advice? (Leak is gone though so that's one positive)

Or any info on the injectors to make sure i have them setup right?

Cheers

This is a little messy and you should wear leather gloves. Crack the fuel rail nut on each injector to find which one isnt firing. When you do the diesel squirts out under pressure but doesnt get injected.
I trust it isnt just when cold. Bad glow plugs can also cause this. My 3.1 also runs rough as guts for the first minute or so after starting
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them

Funny, i have the exact same problem. even with the glow plug getting 12v for 30 odd seconds after start. pulled the front off it and checked timing 3 times, plus checking the pump swash plate timing. still farts around for a couple of minutes.

So I ended up getting a replacement set of injectors. All reassembled (minus forgetting a clip on a coolant hose whoops) she starts and runs flawlessly again.

How do you get the hard return pipe off without breaking it?

Turns out, the relay earths on both glow and afterglow were bad. Gave them a new earth and they work again.
