4JX1 turbocharger oil intake bolt

Postby armuisuzu » Sun Apr 02, 2023 2:32 pm

Hi

I have a a 2001 Isuzu Wizard 3.0L, dohc 4JX1 turbo diesel, UES73SW4. Some time back the turbocharger gave up. I purchased a new Chinese turbo and had it installed. This gave up in less than a week. The mechanic says the turbo oil intake is at fault and I should get a new oil pump installed or a new engine!

After thinking about it for some time I decided to check it myself. I unscrewed the turbo oil intake and started the engine momentarily. Oil gushed out within a second. Then I noticed that the bolt used to attach the oil intake line was a normal solid bolt. Is that the problem? Shouldn't this bolt have a hole to allow oil to pass through (it is called a banjo bolt, I found out)?

My question is - Is the oil intake line secured to the turbo by a banjo bolt?
If so, are banjo bolts generic or do I need to find the specific one for my engine / turbo?

Thank you in advance, all help appreciated.

With regards

Yes it is a banjo bolt. There should be 3 banjo bolts 2 for water and 1 for oil

Thank you. Will have to get a new turbo cartridge and get it reinstalled correctly this time.

Finally I got a new turbo from Aliexpress and had it installed properly with the banjo bolt. Changed oil (10W30) and both oil filters, Had the radiator cleaned and flushed. The car started and was fine for a week, running with full power, and then the oil light on the dash went on and wouldn’t go off. Mechanic undid the turbo oil intake and started the engine for a few seconds – no oil spurting through. So there is definitely an oil circulation problem, not a sensor problem.

I have gone through a lot on Internet posts and am looking for ideas on this problem. Any help on how to proceed would be appreciated. My mechanic too is doing “research” on the Internet.

Thanks
