Help locating model numbers for turbocharger

Postby Kayleb » Thu Feb 11, 2021 2:20 pm

Hello, please excuse me if I make any errors in this post, this is my first post on the Forum. I have a 1994 Isuzu Bighorn 3.1 turbo diesel 4jg2 engine right hand drive. I have been having problems with an oil leak from the turbocharger, and I have been trying to locate the serial number but unfortunately the stamp plate on my turbocharger is empty. I was hoping that there might be a member that would have the same vehicle as me and I would be able to get the model number that is stamped on their turbo.

Thank you for your Help.

Is there anyone that has the same engine as me that could help me out? Let me know if a better picture would help, thanks again.

Thank you for the reply pig75, I noticed that number as well but when I gave it to my Turbo specialist in my local area he said that that wasn't enough information it's like saying it's a Chevy, those where his words. Is there any other numbers you'd be able to provide for me? Thanks again

I have the same engine in my 97 Bighorn, and RHF5 is all that's on my turbo as well, there's nothing else stamped into it.

Also you can enter your VIN number into Partsouk (link below) and it'll tell you what Isuzu reckons they put on it in the factory.
Then google the factory part numbers and see what falls out of the interwebs...

I do not advice anyone using a china turbo . Once you get the turbo you realize the impeller is subbed out to a smaller impeller and while that's great in the city off the dead stop in 1st gear its no good any other time . I put one on ours as a stop gap while getting he OEM one rebuilt and left it on for a few month . The vehicle smoked badly at cruise . The inter cooler was full of oil . China turbo leaking into the intake and it was not far off a runaway engine . They normally end in a total vehicle fire . Fitting the china turbo took a far bit of die grinding to clear the vac waste gate actuator. The studs threads were not square to the back face and dump pipe flange had to be egg shaped out on the holes to fit it . Only went though all this simply because the car was required to be on the road . SO Do not buy a china repo turbo.

Chinese turbos are a gamble. I know many people that have used them successfully but also too many stories like yours. My take would be double check the specs and if it doesnt measure up get your refund
