Diesel pump leak, failed WOF, advice please

Postby Clueless » Thu Jun 17, 2021 7:32 pm

2 drips per minute diesel leak on pump, so failed WOF. Advice needed please. What should I do? I'm in Albany. Is it worth having repaired? The rest of the vehicle suits me fine, and is good. (There is a bit of an oil leak between engine and gearbox). Engine has done 232k, and is going well. There has been a bit of "hunting" when idling lately. Only sometimes. Cheers!

Where is it leaking from? The usual suspects are:
1) The front of the pump.
2) Between the pump body and distributor head
3) Around the fuel delivery pipes
4)From one of the covers bolted to the pump body?

Sometimes its an easy seal replacement but if there are running problems a rebuild is the better option. Is it the electronic pump? Older pump would cost around 1200 drive in drive out but the electronic can be a little more. You can save money taking the pump off yourself but you have to time it afterwards

Many thanks turnrurn and geeves, I've had a drive in drive out quote of $1200 plus gst, and as it's my only vehicle i had better just accept. Ouch, but what can one do?

I recently did the one on my wizard, and it was just over $600 for the rebuild. I removed and re installed it myself. If you're not confident removing it yourself I don't think $1200 is too bad
