MUA transmission model question

Postby arthurdent » Fri Aug 30, 2024 2:57 am

Hey gang,

I've located an 94' Opel Monterey with an MUA-I2 manual transmission. All the information I have and can find is about MUA-5C/S. Is this the same thing? What's the difference between an MUA-5 and MUA-I2? Looking up the MUAI2 returns Opel Monterey results. Is this just a different part number for the same same same?

Are MUAs maintainable in this day and age, or have parts become obsolete?

Many thanks!

Not sure about the differences between models etc but essentially they are the same. The Montery/trooper/bighorn had a different selector shaft to the Amigo/Mu/Rodeo/Frontera/ute and the earlier boxes had a spline on the gearbox instead of a yoke from about 92 onwards. Other differences would be in the transfer case with early ones having a lever to select 4wd (your should be this?) then they designated it shift on the fly which really was only electronic control of the transfer case plus a clutch in the front diff. (My 97wizard had the diff but a lever on the transfer case) then they bought out torque on demand where sensors detected the need to engage the front wheels but that would be much later than what you are looking at. We can get gearbox parts quite easy but over there I dont know

Yup this one has a lever to the transfer case. Manual hubs as well. Are these local shops or do they also sell parts online?
