1989 bighorn parts interchangeability eg. calipers, hubs etc

Postby Bazza » Sun Aug 01, 2021 7:02 am

Hi, long time viewer, first time poster, hope I've picked the right spot for my question.

Wanting to know if 2nd generation bighorn hubs and calipers fit 1st generation? I know they start using ABS in some models but there are newer bighorn without.

Cheers and thanks for any info.
Bazza.

There is a way but it mucks up brake balance. As long as they come from a model with 4 holes in the top ball joint the complete hub assembly including the spindle etc will bolt straight on. Im not sure if you can just change the caliper and disk. You choices are 2.8 Mus and early 3.1 Mus. Very early 3.1 bighorns might have the right parts but my 94 is 3 holes in the top joint. The back is the hard part. The mounting flange on the diff is smaller on your truck so none of the 3.1 parts fit. If you had a Mu you could of swapped the complete diff but the spring spacing is different on the bighorn.
Then you have low volume cert to worry about
Sanding your knuckles before starting work can help. That way you cant skin them
