Torque converter lockup sticking on

Postby Joska » Fri Nov 12, 2021 5:58 pm

Hello all.
I have a 1993 bighorn LWB 4JG2. It had a slipping torque converter lockup clutch for a long time. I just had the torque converter reconditioned along with a new lockup solenoid. The lock up now works great except when the trans is cold for the first 5 mins or so of driving, if I go over 63km ish (lockup point) the trans will go into lockup and stay locked. If I floor it it will kick down but then lockup again instantly no matter the speed and if I move to neutral it changes but as soon as it's back in drive it goes into lockup no matter the speed. When this is happening and I come to a stop it will stall. If I stop and go into neutral then park it seems to reset. When the trans is warm it operates as normal and will lock and unlock as it should.
Any Ideas of what could be the cause?
I've checked the trans fluid level and it is normal and clear as it was changed a month ago.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Geeves,
I had the torque converter reconditioned at Transgear in Sockburn, they seem to know there stuff and do work for all the Auto trans people. The solenoid was new too, the mechanic who put it in I don't have a huge amount of confidence in so maybe they did something wrong? Could it be the TCM maybe?

that would be choice 3. Did it fail after a component change?

It had stuck on a couple of times before the torque converter reconditioning that's why I got the lockup solenoid replaced as well thinking it must be on the way out.

Could also be bad wiring.
