DIY: Remove the Mirrors on a 1991 MU

(This thread is cross posted at https://www.planetisuzoo.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=140559 )

Good evening,

Elsewhere, I read someone took apart the inside of his doors to remove the side mirrors on his MU, only to discover the mirrors must be removed from the outside of the doors. I removed the mirrors on my Japanese 1991 MU (known as an Amigo here in the US) using the following instructions:

Step 1: Acquire the correct tool. (See the first attachment.) I purchased this set of non-marring tools in Harbor Freight (a hardware store here in the USA). Grab the curved tool (attachment 2).

Step 2: Place a towel on the ground next to your door. (This will prevent parts from scratching if they fall onto your driveway.)

Step 3: (See attachments 3 and 4.) Use the tool on the top left corner, where the window is attached to the door. Place the tip between parts 11 and 15 on the diagram. Then pry.

Step 4: Place the tool on the top right corner. Then, pry. The cover (part 11 on the diagram) will fall to the ground. This will reveal two screws. (See attachment 5.)

Step 5: Remove the screws to remove the mirror.

On a related note, the mirrors on my MU are taller than they are wide. (Please see the attachment.) I assume this is because MUs from Japan were produced with different parts than those exported.

I have only been able to find replacement mirrors that are wider than they are tall, such as the following:

- https://www.1aauto.com/isuzu-pup-pickup ... 1amrp01155

- https://www.carsrus.com.au/holden-tf-ro ... or-mirrors

- https://www.ebay.com/itm/283355802482?V ... 3355802482

I cannot confirm that mirrors between Japanese and US models are interchangeable. I also cannot confirm that mirrors between MUs, Amigos, Pickups, and Rodeos are interchangeable. Also, apparently, some mirrors of this style use three screws, not two. (Please reference the following website: https://www.ebay.com/itm/302934093339?ul_noapp=true )

Does anyone have part numbers for any mirrors?

Does anyone know where I can purchase the taller mirrors that are currently installed on my MU?

Thanks!
Bill

TurnTurn,

You, sir, are a hero. I am going to see if I can find those mirrors.

If you don't mind me asking, how are you accessing that Japanese parts catalog?

On a related note to the mirrors, someone ripped out the mast of my antenna from its base on the left fender of my MU. They destroyed the base in the process. I can't tell if the antenna was a manually operated collapsible antenna (like the one shown in attachment 6, which is for the Opel pickup variant of my truck) or if the antenna mast is supposed to unscrew from its base (like the one shown in attachment 7, which is for a US left-hand drive Honda Passport [aka Isuzu Rodeo]).

I'm asking you about the parts catalog because I would like to know the following information:

1.) What antenna came on my vehicle, and what are the replacement part numbers for the base and mast?

2.) If my vehicle came with a collapsible antenna, can it be replaced with the style shown in attachment 7?

3.) What is the part number for the right-hand-drive version of the antenna shown in attachment 7?

I've been scouring the internet for hours looking for answers, parts catalogs, etc., but I haven't made any progress. Also, it appears the dealerships here in the US can't look up part numbers for right-hand drive vehicles. Furthermore, a universal replacement antenna from an auto parts store won't work because of the angle at which the antenna mounts to the fender.

With that said, I'm out of luck. If you could point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks again!
Bill
